Sonny then attended Syracuse University where he received his B.S. degree and was a member of the 1959 National Championship Football team. Sonny while residing in the Highlands New Jersey area was a teacher for 13 years then worked in the construction business and later in the Hotel amp Restaurant business. In 1981 he along with his wife Eileen moved to the E. Stroudsburg area where they purchased the Mountain Vista Campgrounds and ran them until the present time. Sonny was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church of Craig Meadows and while residing in the New Jersey area he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and was a member of the Highlands Fire Departmentnbspfrom 1958-1978fontfont size3.brbrIn addition to his wife and mother he is survived by 4 sons Jason Vaughan and Joah Vaughan both of E. Stroudsburg Ernie Vaughan and his wife Hope of Atlantic Highlands N.J. and Kirk Vaughan and his wife Darlene of Little Egg Harbor N.J. and a daughter Sherry Shirley of Toms River N.J. 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren a sister Lilian Shirley and her husband Jim of Umatilla Fl. and close friend Mary Turley of E. Stroudsburg.
